Building a sauna at home is a dream for many - a place for peace, warmth and relaxation all year round. But one of the first questions we always get is: what does it cost to build a sauna?
The answer depends on several factors - size, materials, heating method and whether you build yourself or choose a ready-made solution. Here we look at what influences the price and how you can find the sauna that best suits your budget.
The cost depends on the type and design of the sauna
When talking about the price of building a sauna, there are several different ways to go. You can either build it yourself from scratch or choose a turnkey sauna that is delivered ready to use.
- A self-built sauna can cost anything from SEK 30,000 upwards, depending on materials and construction time.
- A turnkey sauna from Topolis.se usually costs between €60,000 and €120,000, but by then everything is already assembled and ready to go - you just need to install and start enjoying.
It can be tempting to build your own, but we often see that customers save both time and money in the long run by choosing a ready-made sauna solution. Our saunas are made of durable materials that can withstand the Nordic climate and require minimal maintenance.
The heating method affects the cost
Another big factor affecting the cost is how you want to heat your sauna.
We offer several different options:
- Wood-fired sauna - The classic experience of the smell of wood and crackling fire. A wood-fired sauna has a lower operating cost but requires a chimney and wood storage. Read more about our models here: Wood-fired sauna
- Electric sauna - Easy to install and only requires an electrical connection. Suitable for those who want fast heating without wood handling.
- Outdoor sauna - A popular choice for gardens and holiday homes. It can be placed freestanding and becomes a natural feature of your outdoor environment. See our options: Turnkey Sauna
Each heating method has its advantages - wood-fired for feel, electric for convenience. The combination of price, running cost and frequency of use will determine which is most economical for you.
Material selection and design
The choice of materials affects not only the price but also the lifetime of the sauna.
We mainly use thermowood and spruce - durable wood species that can withstand weather changes and moisture. A sauna with thermowood panels is slightly more expensive but requires less maintenance over time.If you plan to build yourself, you can buy the construction kit or materials separately. However, if you want a complete solution, we deliver pre-assembled models that you can set up directly on site.
